Hydrogen Fuel Cell.

What is a Hydrogen Fuel cell and How does a Hydrogen fuel cell work?

A hydrogen fuel cell is a electrochemical device just like a battery. The device has chemicals stored inside it that is used to produce electric energy. In the case of a Battery these chemicals are acid. The chemicals inside a Hydrogen fuel cell that is used to produce electricity is Hydrogen and Oxygen.

In Electrolysis water (H2O) is broken up into Oxygen(O) and Hydrogen(H) by running an electric current through it.

Now imagine the opposite.

In a Fuel cell Hydrogen and Oxygen is taken and converted in a chemical reaction to create water. In this chemical process an electrical current is produced. It is this electricity that is actually powering a Hydrogen fuel cell car.

This is a very simplified explanation to explain the very complex fuel cell effect.
