What is Hydrogen?

What is Hydrogen and Hydrogen Fuel and why is it on everyone's mind?

Hydrogen is a colourless, odourless, non metallic and highly flammable diatomic gas at standard pressure and temperature and is represented by the molecular formula H2.

Hydrogen is also the most abundant of all chemical elements in the Universe and according to NASA it makes up about three quarters of the Universe's elemental mass.

On Earth Hydrogen can be found in water. Water's molecular formula being H2O, meaning that water is made up of 2 Parts Hydrogen and One part Oxygen. Over two thirds of the earth's surface is covered by water. It is estimated that the earth's total water volume is 1 360 000 000 km3 (or 326 000 000 mi3). There is a lot of Hydrogen to be found in the earth's water and it can be produced by the process called electrolysis. Another way of producing hydrogen is from Natural gas like Methane, a Fossil Fuel.

What is Hydrogen and Hydrogen Fuel used for?

Hydrogen is abundant and quite powerful, if we consider the destructive power of the Hydrogen Bomb and when Hydrogen burns it does not give off Carbon dioxide or other harmful gasses like normal fuel. .

Abundance, power and environmental friendliness is three very important factors to make the perfect fuel of the future. The Fourth factor is easy and economical Production.

Can Hydrogen be Produced easily and economically?
